Kendrick Lamar – Rigamortis [Video]

This video was shot in my hometown of NYC around the time that I interviewed him this summer. Do you hear the flow? Not to sound cliché or anything, but………. that shit cray. Don’t ask for your favorite rapper. He dead.

Casey Veggies – Ridin Roun Town (Remix) (feat. C-San, Dom Kennedy & Kendrick Lamar)

This. Is. Awesome. I’m not exactly sure who C-San is, but he does a gob job killin this with Dom & Kendrick (who are top 10 rappers right now, for real). This is the remix to one of the stand-outs from CV’s last tape that is being rereleased tomorrow. To get this dope joint along with a bunch of others, preorder now or cop tomorrow.

Albums You Should’ve Already Bought

Section.80, Kendrick Lamar

Watch The Throne, Jay-Z & Kanye West

These are my two favorite albums of the year (so far). Original, soulful, and beautiful experiences. Take my advice and purchase:

Section.80 – Kendrick Lamar
Watch The Throne – Jay-Z & Kanye West

XV – Zero Heroes

This is the first full project that we have gotten from XV since he dropped Vizzy Zone last Fall. This tape is a great listen, and also a sign of more to come considering his Warner Bros. debut The Kid With The Green Backpack is expected to be released later this year. This will definitely do for now. Features include from Pusha T, CyHi Da Prynce, Vado, Kendrick Lamar, and Donnis. Production comes from Just Blaze, J. Cole, longtime collaborator Seven, and others. Ab-Soul – Rapper Shit (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

A 6 minute rapping extravaganza from Solo & K-Dot. These dudes go in for ab-soul-utely no reason, considering this track was left off of Long Term Mentality. But I am not complaining, and neither should you.

Listen & Download

Ab-Soul – Long Term Mentality

This is the best project that I have heard all year. I don’t know how many entire projects I have listened to, but this is easily the best. Mr. Solo is not very well known. In fact, he is probably the least well known member of rap group Black Hippy. However, this album/mixtape/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is awesome. He is an incredible rapper, and this is the best music I have heard out of him. I am also sure it is going to only get better from here, which is exciting. Do yourself, and this “broke and almost famous” rapper, a favor by spending six bucks on the project. Features include Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Murs. Production comes from Sounwave and Tae Beast, as well as others. Read more for the track list and the iTunes link.

XXL‘s 2011 Freshman Mixtape

As I previously mentioned, I was the the Freshman Showcase at BB Kings (in NYC) yesterday, and it was incredible. Kendrick, CyHi, and KRIT had the best performances, which came as no surprise to me. CyHi also brought out Big Sean & Pusha T, while Kendrick performed with Schoolboy Q, so that was dope. Mac Miller’s performance was cool too, and Fred The Godson held NY down by killing it (admittedly to my surprise). I hate to report, however, that Lil Twist and Diggy Simmons acted their age, and that is not really a good thing. I think Diggy will get better as the years pass (he just turned 16…), but at this point he sounds like Bow Wow in his “Like Mike” years. The only missing link from the show was LIL B BASED GOD!! Haha I actually thought his show would be entertaining, but apparently he had a previous commitment. Anyway, here is the tape that XXL put together with songs from each of the artists.
