Not enough people know about Ab-Soul. He released the most underrated project of the year in Long Term Mentality– it is truly great. That is why I composed this compilation tape. I took some of (what I think are) Solo’s best songs from his two tapes before LTM and mixed them together. Hopefully some people will listen to this and recognize Top Dawg’s Under Dawg, then feel more inclined to spend 8 bucks on his most recent project. Read more for the track list and download link.
Comin straight outta Purchase, my man Andy Pop dropped this FreEP a couple months ago and now that I’m back to blogging I decided to throw it up here for some extra shine. Personally, my favorite joint is “Where I’m At”. Take a listen, and then take it or leave it. (Get it??)
This is the first full project that we have gotten from XV since he dropped Vizzy Zone last Fall. This tape is a great listen, and also a sign of more to come considering his Warner Bros. debut The Kid With The Green Backpack is expected to be released later this year. This will definitely do for now. Features include from Pusha T, CyHi Da Prynce, Vado, Kendrick Lamar, and Donnis. Production comes from Just Blaze, J. Cole, longtime collaborator Seven, and others. This is the best project that I have heard all year. I don’t know how many entire projects I have listened to, but this is easily the best. Mr. Solo is not very well known. In fact, he is probably the least well known member of rap group Black Hippy. However, this album/mixtape/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is awesome. He is an incredible rapper, and this is the best music I have heard out of him. I am also sure it is going to only get better from here, which is exciting. Do yourself, and this “broke and almost famous” rapper, a favor by spending six bucks on the project. Features include Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Murs. Production comes from Sounwave and Tae Beast, as well as others. Read more for the track list and the iTunes link.
As I previously mentioned, I was the the Freshman Showcase at BB Kings (in NYC) yesterday, and it was incredible. Kendrick, CyHi, and KRIT had the best performances, which came as no surprise to me. CyHi also brought out Big Sean & Pusha T, while Kendrick performed with Schoolboy Q, so that was dope. Mac Miller’s performance was cool too, and Fred The Godson held NY down by killing it (admittedly to my surprise). I hate to report, however, that Lil Twist and Diggy Simmons acted their age, and that is not really a good thing. I think Diggy will get better as the years pass (he just turned 16…), but at this point he sounds like Bow Wow in his “Like Mike” years. The only missing link from the show was LIL B BASED GOD!! Haha I actually thought his show would be entertaining, but apparently he had a previous commitment. Anyway, here is the tape that XXL put together with songs from each of the artists. Pusha releases his long-awaited solo mixtape, which is compiled of both original music and freestyles. Features come from Re-Up Gang member Ab-Liva, Rick Ross, 50 Cent, Pharrell, and Kanye West.
